The American Innovation Series began in 2018 to highlight the innovative spirit all Americans share. Each state is creating a design featuring an innovation from that state to be placed on the various golden dollar coin strikes. These strikes include a mint state strike from the Philadelphia and Denver Mints, and a proof and reverse proof strike from the San Francisco Mint. Additionally, this series features a first ever series inaugural coin with the first US patten and a facsimile of President George Washington's signature and starting in 2019 the four state coins for that year feature a unique privy mark.
